We’re Experts on Senior Medicaid Planning in Arizona

Are you an Arizona senior who needs access to long-term Medicaid benefits? Our team combines empathy, education, and expertise to provide professional support.

Determining Eligibility

We know all the ins and outs of Arizona's Medicaid eligibility requirements, so we can help determine if you meet the income and asset limits set by the state. Our clinical care team will help you with what to expect during the assessments to establish a medical need for care and what level of care you require.

Application Assistance

Arizona’s Medicaid application process can be confusing for many people. Often, applicants are denied because of procedural errors. We know how to navigate the application process and figure out which Medicaid programs you might qualify for. We are happy to complete the application for you and accelerate the approval process.

ALTCS Benefits

There are Medicaid waiver programs such as ALTCS (Arizona Long Term Care System) that can help you pay for care in your home or another setting, like assisted living or memory care. Our Certified Medicaid Planners™ can help you apply and qualify for these kinds of programs. We can also help you gain access to providers to establish ongoing care.

Medicaid Planning for Seniors in Arizona: FAQs

For Arizona’s standard Medicaid (Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System), seniors generally qualify at age 65 and older.  Eligibility is dependent on meeting specific income and asset limits. However, the Elderly Simplified Application Project is available as an exception for seniors 60 years old and up with no earned income

Arizona has a state-specific Medicaid program for long-term care through AHCCCS called Arizona Long Term Care System. Through ALTCS, seniors can pay for long-term care in nursing homes, assisted living, or at home, so long as they meet the functional and financial eligibility requirements.

It’s best to begin planning at least five years before long-term care is needed to avoid issues with Medicaid’s 5-year lookback period. However, if your family needs immediate care, seniors can still benefit from crisis Medicaid planning, which helps structure assets appropriately and expedite eligibility.

Yes, the spouse at home (known as the community spouse) is protected by Medicaid by allowing them to keep a large portion of the couple’s assets and income while the other spouse qualifies for Medicaid. A Medicaid planner helps ensure the Community Spouse Resource Allowance Act is followed to protect savings, property, and monthly income.

Not always. While some situations require the expertise of an elder law attorney, particularly when trusts, estate issues, or complex assets are involved, many families can work with certified Medicaid planners who specialize in eligibility strategy, spend-down planning, and application support.
